Currently, travelers on the streets of European cities can enjoy being transported from one place to another in the ease of the Mercedes Sprinter Van. This model was first introduced in 2006 at the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Germany, Hannover, and since then they have rapidly acquired a considerable market share. The Van fleet now includes many models, including Sprinter Transfer, Sprinter Mobility, and Sprinter Travel and so on.
This vehicle was manufactured for the first time under the Mercedes-Benz label by Daimler AG in Argentina and Germany in 1995. It was just introduced in Europe for a few years and was designed to replace the full-size Mercedes-Benz T1 truck that had not been updated since the seventies. It was marketed as a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle in 2003, launched in the United States in 2001 as Freightliner.
The Sprinter City 65 vehicle is the best-selling daily service van in Europe. It is a better model than previous designs with 7.7 meters in length compared to 7 meters in the old Sprinter. Also, it can accommodate up to 35 passengers. Engine specifications include a 4-cylinder Euro turbo diesel engine with 150 horsepower or 120 kW of power.
For the next several years, there are many excellent improvements in the Sprinter City 65 model. First, there will be a more low-floor area between the axles; 10% more, actually, makes it easier and more spacious for passengers to get in and out of the minibus. The first row of seats has moved to this low floor area as well and the highest floor is just one step up.
Also, there will be a new ticket counter that will make transactions easier and the fire extinguisher and breakdown kit will fit inside the counter. The new model will feature rear pneumatic suspension and a driver’s seat with suspension. A new LED matrix sign will clarify the destination of the van and the roof hatch will be electrically operated.
Though it is an excellent Sprinter Van transport, it has found wide use as other types of service vehicles in several parts of the world. For example, the vehicles have been adapted in ambulances with extensive use in London, Hong Kong, and Brazil. They are very popular for cargo transport and courier as well as packaging services.
